The Voice Behind Africa Inc.: Meet Adefemi Akinsanya, CNN’s New Anchor Reframing the Continent’s Global Economic Narrative
When CNN International announced its multiplatform feature series Africa Inc. sponsored by industrial group Dangote Industries Limited, the choice of host signaled a deliberate, authoritative shift in how African business is reported globally. Taking the helm as anchor and Lagos-based correspondent is British-born Nigerian broadcast journalist Adefemi Akinsanya.
Akinsanya brings a formidable global reporting background to the network. An alumnus of King’s College London, where she earned her degree in International Politics, and a 2023 Nieman Fellow at Harvard University, her career spans stints at some of the world’s most respected news institutions, including Sky News, Reuters, Al Jazeera, and TRT World. Prior to joining CNN, she served as International Correspondent and Anchor for Arise News in Lagos, establishing herself as a vital voice in press freedom advocacy and international reporting.
Her career has been defined by frontline coverage of defining geopolitical moments. She has reported from the thick of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, highlighting both the humanitarian refugee crisis and the nuanced dynamics of race during early war evacuations as well as Nigeria’s historic #EndSARS anti-police brutality demonstrations. On the global political and economic stage, Akinsanya has covered U.S. presidential elections, the 2025 presidential inauguration, and high-level summits including the World Economic Forum in Davos, the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington D.C., and the G7 Summit in Évian-les-Bains.
Her portfolio includes one-on-one dialogues with top global decision-makers, including Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization; Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations; and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
With Africa Inc. set to premiere on 29 August followed by four subsequent episodes scheduled across 2026 and 2027, Akinsanya turns her analytical lens toward African enterprise. Stationed in Lagos, she will spotlight homegrown conglomerates, tech innovators, and industry leaders across manufacturing, hospitality, and entertainment who are actively competing in the international market.
